As one of the missions of Surdits United, we are committed to bringing Deaf View/Image Art De’VIA into the classroom and community.  Go to our De’VIA Curr website for lesson plans, coloring book pages, ASL videos, power points and more. https://deviacurr.wordpress.com/

The De’VIA Curriculum project began after an artist retreat in Olathe, Kansas in 2013 where 40 Deaf artists gathered to examine the past, present, and posterity of De’VIA.  In addition to the creation of a large mural to honor the original 1989 De’VIA mural, which is missing, and to examine how De’VIA has evolved and where it is going, there was also discussion on the importance of developing De’VIA curriculum for Deaf children and community members.  In the summer of 2014 a group of De’VIA artists and art teachers gathered at Rochester School for the Deaf in NY to work on a De’VIA curriculum, lesson plans, and activities. Art teachers and Deaf Artists in Residence continue to train and work on curriculum every summer for one week at a different hosting Deaf school.
